Pat Morris Named NISL Defender of the Year

The National Indoor Soccer League (NISL) announced Tuesday afternoon that Philadelphia KiXX defender Pat Morris has been named the 2008-09 NISL Defender of the Year. The 10-year veteran was also named the League Defender of the Year for his performance throughout the 2004-05 campaign.

A four-time all-star defender, Morris was also named to the All-NISL First Team, marking the seventh occasion he was named to an All-League unit in his illustrious career. The Philadelphia native finished the 2008-09 season ranked third among all NISL scorers, first for the Philadelphia KiXX, with 51 points on six three-point goals (1st NISL), 11 two-point goals, and 11 assists. Morris surpassed several impressive career feats this season including 500 blocks, by far the team's all-time mark, and 400 points.

The Northeast Catholic and Philadelphia University graduate appeared in all 18 games this season and recorded three hat tricks. Morris was also named the League's Defender of the Month for his performance throughout December in which he recorded 17 points and a team-best nine blocks in Philadelphia's five contests.

The NISL's formal voting process to determine the League's postseason awards polls members of the media, as well as NISL coaches and general managers and asked each voter to cast a vote for first-place (value five points), second-place (three points), and third-place (one point).
