Pat Healey Named 2008-09 NISL Rookie of the Year

April 7, 2009 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) News Release

The National Indoor Soccer League (NISL) announced today that Baltimore Blast midfielder Pat Healey has been voted the 2008-09 NISL Rookie of the Year. The 23-year-old graduate of Towson University scored six goals in his rookie season. Healey and the Blast will host the Rockford Rampage in the 2009 NISL Championship at 1st Mariner Saturday night.

Healey, the son of Blast President and General Manager Kevin Healey, recorded six goals and four assists for 16 points on the season and earned more first-place Rookie of the Year votes than any other eligible player (five first-place votes). The Blast selected Healey, who also plays for Crystal Palace in the USL Second Division, in the Territorial Round of the 2007 Amateur Draft. He scored the first goal of his professional indoor career against Massachusetts on December 12 and went on to add a goal in each of the next two Blast games. He scored two goals, including the game-winner, and added an assist in Baltimore's 18-16 overtime win in Monterrey on March 1.

The 2007 Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year, Healey led the CAA with eight goals and nine assists in his last collegiate season and was a three-time All-CAA selection and a two-time NSCAA/ADIDAS All-South Atlantic Region player during his four years at Towson.

To determine winners of the postseason awards, members of the media, MISL coaches and team personnel were asked to cast votes for first-place (worth five points), second-place (three points), and third-place (one point) for NISL Rookie of the Year.
