PASL Weekly - Week 6

December 14, 2011 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) News Release

These Bolts Can Strike the Same Place Twice

12/14/11 - The Anaheim Bolts, who have guaranteed their season ticket holders that they will make the playoffs this year or next year's season tickets will be free, might have been getting nervous after an 0-2 start. Undaunted, the Bolts have now won three straight after a pair of wins in Phoenix last weekend.

Anaheim now sits 1/2 game ahead of the Tacoma Stars for the final playoff spot in the Western Division. The Bolts tagged the Monsoon with 6-2 and 8-4 losses. Phoenix has now lost seven straight games.

Player of the Week

Enrique Tovar, Anaheim Bolts

Tovar, 32, has recorded points in all five games this year and sits second in the league with 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists). He recorded a hat trick on Saturday and a goal and four assists Sunday in Anaheim's two wins. Tovar and Head Coach Bernie Lilavois were teammates on the California Cougars before reuniting in Anaheim.

Sockers Winning Streak at 12

The San Diego Sockers have trailed three times in the fourth quarter in their four games this year, but no one has been able to finish them off. The Sockers rallied from 5-2 down to beat Revolucion Tijuana 6-5 in overtime. Tijuana even appeared to take a 6-3 lead on a faulty restart, but the goal was properly disallowed and the Sockers capitalized on their new lease on life. San Diego has now won 12 straight regular season games dating back to December 27.

Piasa Have No Answers for Kansas Magic

The thorn in the side ot the Illinois Piasa has been the Kansas Magic. The Piasa's season has gotten off to a disappointing 1-5 start thanks, in part, to an 0-3 record against Kansas. The latest blow came Saturday when Illinois let a 6-4 lead slip away in the last five minutes en route to a 7-6 loss.

US Open Action

The US Open Arena Soccer Championship tournament eliminated two more teams last weekend. The Louisville Lightning allowed Indy Elite to hang around in a 3-3 first quarter, but had little trouble taking a 15-5 decision. The Cincinnati Kings beat David Satterwhite's Cincy Saints 8-4. The Turlock Express and the Bolts will dance in the Quarterfinal Round this Saturday in Turlock.
