Anaheim Bolts News Release
Anaheim, CA- (December 14)- The Anaheim Bolts have yet another busy weekend of action with a road match on Friday versus the Turlock Express (7:35 P.M. PST) and a home encounter on Sunday against the Tacoma Stars (6:00 P.M. PST).
This will mark the third straight weekend that the Bolts have played two matches.
"I'm actually happy we have two games as we have great momentum at the moment and I am looking forward to keeping that going," remarked head coach Bernie Lilavois. "I am especially excited to get back to Anaheim and play in front of our great fans on Sunday after what will have been three games on the road."
The Bolts have won their last four matches in all competitions (three in the PASL and one in the US Open Cup) and are looking to continue their streak in both competitions on Friday. The showdown with Turlock will not only count towards the PASL standings, but will also double up as a US Open Arena Championship quarterfinal.
Turlock sits in second place in the Western Division with a 5-3 record, half a game behind San Diego. The Express are led by Jorge Quiroz with six goals and 15 assists while Adrian Gutierrez leads the team in scoring with 12 goals.
The Express comes into the match off a weekend split up in Tacoma, losing the first match to the Stars 10-6 last Friday before winning by the same score-line the next evening.
Turlock and Anaheim met earlier in the season with the Bolts picking up their first ever win in PASL history with a 12-10 triumph in Anaheim. If the Bolts can continue its unbeaten run, they will jump over the Express in the table.
The match against Turlock can be heard on internet radio at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/anaheim-bolts.
On Sunday, the Bolts will return to the friendly confines of the Anaheim Convention Center Arena for a first ever meeting with the Tacoma Stars. The match is the main event of the Bolts first annual "Faith and Family Night" which will include a U-13 girls tournament and a variety of performers and speakers. The Stars started the season 0-2 and responded by signing six new players. Since the change in personnel, Tacoma has gone 3-1 to sit just one place behind the Bolts in fourth. Tacoma's big guns are Ian Weinberg and Adam Nowland who have combined for 16 of the Stars 46 goals this season.
The Bolts scored just 14 goals in its two games in Arizona last weekend, but only allowed a paltry six goals. Anaheim kept Phoenix scoreless for a combined four quarters over the two games.
"I was pleased with our defensive effort over the weekend," Lilavois said. "If we can continue to keep things tight at the back, then we will keep on rolling in the right direction."
