PASL-Pro Weekly - Week 5

December 15, 2010 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) News Release

Sockers Survive Scare, Remain Undefeated

12/15/10 - The San Diego Sockers were without three of their best players and going up against a feisty opponent on the road at Tijuana. If the defending champs were vulnerable this would be an ideal time to strike.

La Revolucion put the Sockers on the ropes by taking a 5-4 lead in the fourth quarter, but Kraig Chiles tied the game just 30 seconds later and the teams went into overtime thanks in large part to backup goalie Chris Toth who was making his pro debut for San Diego.

Despite missing Paul Wright, Riley Swift, and Majell Aterado, the Sockers only needed 35 seconds of sudden death to improve to 5-0 on the season. Anthony Medina was the recipient of a pass-pass-shoot restart and neatly tucked away the game winner.

Player of the Week

Slavia Ubiparipovic, Ohio Vortex

The Ohio Vortex have been beset by injuries and have been struggling in the Eastern Division. One thing Vortex fans can be optimistic about is the arrival of Slavisa Ubiparipovic. The 23 year old forward comes to the Vortex from the Cleveland Internationals and Cleveland State. In just his second game with Ohio he scored the first five Vortex goals, including four straight that turned a 4-1 deficit into a 5-4 lead. The Vortex went on to lose to Detroit 8-7, but Ubiparipovic opened some eyes. His older brother Sinisa is a fixture on the New York Red Bulls of MLS.

Kick Starters - Conversations you should be having about the PASL-Pro

Big Footsteps to Follow

On the same night that Chris Toth, son of legendary goalkeeper Zoltan Toth, made his Sockers debut, Nebo Stamenkovic, son of Stan Stamenkovic, was making his first PASL-Pro appearance for the Ohio Vortex. The younger Stamenkovic played previously indoors for the New Jersey Ironmen.

Home Records

The Kings will be extra fired up to defend their all-time home mark of 18-0 this Saturday when the San Diego Sockers come to town. The San Diego Sockers haven't been in the league as long, but they can still feel pretty good about their all-time record of 11-0 at Del Mar Arena and that's not even including their US Open and playoff wins.

All Ryled Up

Tristen Ryles of the Wenatchee Fire had a pretty special night against the PASL-Premier WSA Rapids. The Fire got their first win of the season, 7-4, with Ryles in net. Ryles made 21 saves and scored a goal and assisted on another goal.

Oh, Canada

The CMISL will begin its fifth season on New Year's Eve when the Edmonton Drillers travel to face the Calgary United at the Subway Soccer Centre.

Gem of a Game

Roger Gemoules of Illinois Piasa had five goals and an assist in Piasa's 14-7 rout of the Springfield Demize, spoiling Springfield's home opener. Gemoules, formerly of the Milwaukee Wave and St. Louis Illusion, turns 28 in two weeks.
