PASL postseason kicks off Friday night at Stockton Arena

STOCKTON, CA - March 10, 2009 - The Stockton Cougars, of the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL-Pro), begin their first ever visit to postseason competition on Saturday night at 7:30PM during the semi-finals of the PASL-Pro Championship Tournament at Stockton Arena. The six-team tournament features the top seeded (1) 1790 Cincinnati, the host (2) Stockton Cougars, the Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League Champion (3) Edmonton Drillers, Liga Mexicana de Futbol Rapido (LMFR) Central Division winner (4) Tigres Dorados MRCI Oaxaca, the PASL-Pro Wild Card winner (5) Denver Dynamite, and LMFR Baja Division winner (6) La Cabana de Baja California.

The tournament begins Friday, March 13 with the Drillers (9-3) taking on La Cabana (2-1-2) at 5:00PM. An award ceremony, featuring the announcement of the league's most valuable player, coach of the year and first/second team awards follows at 7:20PM. Friday's festivities conclude with Oaxaca (5-1-0) against Denver (9-7) at 8:00PM.

1790 Cincinnati (13-3) is the top seed and will face the winner of Friday's late matchup between Denver and Oaxaca. The second seeded Cougars (12-4) will face either Edmonton or La Cabana on Saturday night at 7:30PM.

After winning LMFR's Central Division, MRCI Oaxaca was the third team to qualify for the tournament. The Cougars were the first team to reserve a spot, while 1790 Cincinnati was the second. Stockton won the PASL-Pro Western Division and Cincinnati won the East.

Edmonton squeaked passed Calgary 7-6 in overtime on March 8 to take the number three seed in the PASL-Pro championship tournament and the CMISL Championship title. The Drillers defeated Calgary four times this season in league play, but never by more than one goal.

La Cabana earned the nod as the sixth seed after finishing atop LMFR's Baja Division. They defeated Cuernavaca de Baja California 5-2 in the division title match on March 7.

Denver was in full control of their destiny going in to the final weekend of PASL-Pro play. Their 9-5 road win against Colorado on March 8 clinched their spot as the PASL-Pro wildcard team.

The Championship match is at 1:00PM on Sunday, March 15.

All games will be broadcast via online streaming audio at www.stocktoncougars.net. Saturday's semi-final match involving the Cougars will air on 1420 AM KSTN with the pregame show starting around 7:15PM.
