Parucha's Complete Game Performance Punishes Bombers

July 24, 2013 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
East Texas PumpJacks News Release

For his second start in a row, Robert Parucha went the distance to lead the Jacks to a win. The Pump Jacks offense backed their starter, picking up 12 hits to help defeat the Brazos Valley Bombers 7-1.

What's better than one complete game victory? How about back-to-back nine inning complete game performances. Robert Parucha picked up right where he left off last week recording another absolute gem to lead the East Texas Pump Jacks over the Brazos Valley Bombers 7-1 Tuesday night at Historic Driller Park. With the win the Jacks move back to .500 in the second half of the season with a 7-7 record, and a 22-22 overall.

The reigning Warstic TCL Pitcher of the Week showed why he received league honors with a near flawless complete game, allowing only one unearned run. Parucha started the game out hot pitching a hitless first four frames. In his nine innings, Parucha allowed only five hits, struck out five Bombers, and did not issue a single walk. Parucha needed only 91 pitches to complete the game, throwing 70 for strikes.

The Pump Jack offense supported Parucha recording seven runs on 12 hits. Joey Armstrong helped lead the charging offense by going 1-for-3 with a big two-run triple. Matthew Dickey, Mark Mathias, and Bret Bitow all chalked up a multi-hit game and J.J. Robinson managed to do his part putting the ball in play twice resulting in two Jacks runs.

The Jacks took and early lead 2-0; taking advantage of a pair of Bomber miscues. With one out in the second, Bitow knocked a single through the hole on the right side, and Robinson followed the old adage of simply putting the ball in play. Robinson hit a grounder to second, but Patrick McLendon of the Bombers initially bobbled it and rushed his throw to first, sailing it over the head of the first basement, allowing Bitow to score all the way from second and putting the Jacks ahead 1-0.

In the fourth, Armstrong opened the frame with a walk and swiped second. After a strikeout and a fly out found the Jacks down to their final out, Robinson once again induced a Bomber error resulting in a Jacks run. Robinson hit a one-hop liner right at G.R. Hinsley at first but the ball bounced off his glove and rolled into right, allowing Armstrong to scamper home from second.

The Bombers bounced back to cut the Jacks lead in half with a run in the fifth. After four hitless innings, Parucha allowed back-to-back singles to Hunter Melton and Cody Lovejoy; Melton was thrown out at third for the first out and Lovejoy moved up to second on the throw. Parucha battled back to strikeout Jake Henson for the second out of the inning, but the inning continued on an error by Mathias leaving runners on first and third. Horacio Correa III took advantage and ripped the first pitch he saw into right to plate Lovejoy. Mitch Meyer ended the inning and the threat with a great catch on a sinking line drive that could have resulted in extra bases and multiple runs for the Bombers.

The Pump Jacks offense came to the aid of Parucha in the bottom of the seventh, driving home four runs to give him some insurance and alleviate the pressure. The Jacks sent eight runners to the plate in the inning, starting with Michael Hymes who walked to get things started. Matthew Dickey followed with his second single of the night, and Esposito followed suit with a single of his own. On Esposito's single, Michael Hymes was given the go-ahead to take home, but was thrown out.

Mathias grounded into a fielder's choice to erase Esposito at second, putting runners on the corners with two outs.Meyer drove home the first run of the inning with a single up the middle past the glove of McLendon at second for his 21st RBI of the season. Armstrong scorched his third triple of the season to the opposite field, bringing home both runners to add to his team leading RBI total (25).

The Jacks added another run in the eighth to secure the 7-1 victory. After a pop out, Hymes placed a bloop single to right, and moved to second on a passed ball. He advanced to third on a single from Dickey, who went 3-for-5 on the night with three singles. Esposito picked up the final RBI of the game, sacrificing Hymes home from third. Dickey swiped back-to-back bases in the inning, moving his total to 22 on the season, tying him for the league lead, but was stranded at third to end the inning.
