Strykers Get Win 5-4 against Marshals in Bottom of Ninth

The Woodlands Strykers opened up a four game homestand tonight against the Texas Marshals with the first of two games against the Marshals. The Strykers started off the game offensively but were able to get some help from the Marshals in the seventh inning before sealing the victory in the bottom of the ninth, winning the game 5-4.

Matt Danton started on the mound for the Strykers. The Conroe native got into some trouble early before finding his groove. Danton would pitch eight innings giving up four runs while striking out four batters and throwing 100 pitches. Gandy Stubblefield came in and faced five batters in the top of the ninth and recorded three strikeouts.

The team got seven hits on the night with Ricky Sanchez getting two to go along with one hit each for Conner Fikes, Zach Davis, Kevin Santana, Dirk Masters and Daniel Homann. The seventh inning would get started with Daniel Homann getting on base with a single. He would then be out on a fielder's choice hit by Bobby Schumann. Dalton Perry would then step to the plate and get on base via an E5. Conner Fikes would then come to the plate and draw a walk on a pass ball that scored Schuman. Zach Davis would come to the plate. Fikes would score on an error by the pitcher before Davis would hit a single that would score Perry. Davis would then score the final run of the inning on a pass ball with Dirk Masters at the plate. In the ninth inning following a flyout by Perry, Fikes drew a walk followed by an E4 that put Davis on. Kevin Santana was walked intentionally that loaded the bases. With Dirk Masters batting, Fikes would come home on a wild pitch to seal the win.

The two teams will conclude the series on Wednesday July 24th. Wednesday's game against the Marshals is a BOGO Wednesday(Buy one hotdog, popcorn or GA ticket and get one free). The series later this week against the East Texas Pump Jacks will feature a Dollar Thursday($1 Hot Dogs and Drinks). The Friday game against the Pump Jacks will be a Family Friday(Free Kids Admission/Post Game Autographs). There is another special promotion in addition. Friday's game is Cancer Awareness Night. The team will be selling special pink wristbands for $5 with half of the proceeds made off the sale of the wristbands being donated to the American Cancer Society.
