FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - With fewer than 40 days remaining until the start of the 2015 season, the Fayetteville SwampDogs continue to infuse talent into their roster, with the latest additions coming from Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Ga.
Outfielder Jordan Getzelman and right-handed pitcher Will Bice will be donning SwampDogs blue, white and green when their collegiate seasons are over.
Getzelman, a Crystal Lake, Ill. native, will add good punch and speed the heart of the SwampDogs lineup. He is batting .359 with five triples, four home runs, 10 stolen bases and 27 RBIs in 64 at bats in his sophomore season at Iowa Western Community College in 2015. Getzelman was rated the number three recruit in the state of Illinois in high school, and began his collegiate career at the University of Missouri before transferring.
Bice, who hails from Fortson, Ga., is a freshman hurler who should contribute to an already impressive SwampDogs pitching staff. Appearing in eight games for Georgia Perimeter College this season, Bice has struck out 20 batters in 13 2/3 innings. Bice leads the Georgia Perimeter staff in strikeouts-per-nine-innings.
The Kennesaw State Owls are currently 20-17 overall on the 2015 season, including a 5-4 mark in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
The Fayetteville SwampDogs are in their 15th season playing in the Coastal Plain League. The SwampDogs are one of the most successful franchises in the league's history, making the Petitt Cup Playoffs eight times in the past 10 seasons, reaching the championship round three times. The SwampDogs boast 84 alumni taken in the draft and have produced six players who have gone on to play in Major League Baseball. The SwampDogs open their season on Tuesday, May 26th with a 7:05 pm tilt with the Morehead City Marlins at J.P. Riddle Stadium.
