January 8, 2022 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Panther City Lacrosse Club News Release
San Diego, Calif. - The Panther City Lacrosse Club was back on the practice field yesterday evening after a few weeks off and will face the San Diego Seals tonight at 9:00 p.m. CT on Bally Sports Southwest+ and ESPN+. Earlier this week the team sent veteran forward Ryan Benesch to the Albany FireWolves in a trade that saw the team gain an extra first-round selection in the 2022 NLL Entry Draft. The team will look to Phil Caputo, who leads the team in goals (5) to take on a bigger role, as well as Will Malcom, who returns to action after missing the previous game. Prior to his one-game absence, Malcom had notched six points (2 goals/4 assists). Defensively, the team will continue to rely on veterans Connor Sellars (who leads all defensemen with 20 claimed loose balls) and Matt Hossack (team leading six caused turnovers).

Panther City Lacrosse Club Head Coach Tracey Kelusky
On the team returning after a few weeks off...
"Yeah - it is always good when you can hit that reset button. Collectively as a group we said we are going to reset after three games, every three games and then evaluate. It was a good opportunity for us to sink into some of the things that we were doing. Watch and learn from it and continue to prepare for this weekend."
On what he is looking to see from the team at practice this evening...
"Tonight is about that excitement. Let get the sticks back in our hands. Guys were probably cooped up and probably weren't able to do a ton. Be excited to be here. It is a business trip, but be excited and hone in on the things that we want to improve upon. Tonight is about energy and getting out there and preparing for San Diego."
On the message to the offense after the trade of Ryan Benesch...
"It is an opportunity. [Next man up] has been our motto since day 1. We have a bunch of young guys. We have guys that maybe haven't played as many minutes as some of the other guys,. Take this opportunity and run with it. We are fully confident with the group of men that we have and that is our message. Believe in yourself. We believe in you. Seize the opportunity."
Panther City Lacrosse Club Forward Phil Caputo
On returning to practice with the team after a few weeks off...
"It feels great. We all have been itching to get back after these last few weeks off. Come here, practice hard and get ready for tomorrow's game."
On what the team looks to accomplish at practice tonight...
"Have a good practice. All the sticks down. We have had two weeks off, so simple practice. Catch and throwing. Get back into our systems and hammering down our game plan for tomorrow."
On the offense responding to the trade of Ryan Benesch
"Next man up. It is tough losing Beni [Ryan Benesch]. Everyone knows the type of player he is and the things he brought to this team, but he is gone now, so it is next man up. We have a lot of young guys on this team that can do some pretty big things and produce. I am looking forward to them stepping up and also for myself, to take a bigger on the role on offense and get ready for tomorrow night."
