Mammoth Rally to Knock off Warriors 18-15

January 8, 2022 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Vancouver Warriors News Release

VANCOUVER - A scorching start turned into a tough finish for the Vancouver Warriors. Vancouver scored the first seven goals of the game, but the Colorado Mammoth lived up to their name, rallying for a massive second quarter rally of their own to hand the Warriors a tough 18-15 loss before 4830 boisterous fans at Rogers Arena on Friday night.

The Warriors chased starter Dillon Ward, scoring early and often in the first quarter, including a 7-0 run in the opening 4:32 of the game. However, the Mammoth refused to quit and put together a number of runs themselves, clawing back to 12-10 at the half before taking the lead to stay late in the 3rd quarter and never relinquishing the lead.

Mitch Jones had a big night on the scoresheet in a losing cause for Vancouver, scoring twice and adding seven assists for nine points. Former Colorado forward Kyle Killen also kicked in, scoring four goals against his former team and adding three assists for a seven point night.

Ryan Lee went off for the Mammoth in their comeback, scoring twice and assisting on 10 others for a staggering 12 point night.

Vancouver falls to 2-2 on the season and will have an extra week to prepare for their next game. The Warriors kick off a two game road trip in Calgary on January 22, followed by a return encounter with Colorado, this time in Denver on January 29th. The Warriors return home for a game against expansion Panther City on Saturday, February 5. Game time is at 7 PM at Rogers Arena.
