Palm Beach Falls in the 11th Inning
August 17, 2022 - Florida State League (FSL)
Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
The Palm Beach Cardinals rallied in the ninth inning to tie the game, but were unable to complete the comeback in extra innings and would fall 6-5 to the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Wednesday night.
With one out in the bottom of the ninth, RJ Yeager would connect on a fly ball just inside the foul pole to tie the contest at 5-5. It was the third home run of the year for the undrafted product from Mississippi State University, and one that sealed free baseball for the fans in attendance in Jupiter.
Yeager also opened the scoring for Palm Beach with a first-inning sacrifice fly to score Nathan Church. The Panama City, Fla. native added to his RBI total in the third with a single before Brody Moore plated a pair on a double to give the Cardinals a 4-3 lead.
Tink Hence started for Palm Beach and allowed three Mussel runs in the second inning while striking out three batters across two and 1/3 frames. Alfredo Ruiz tossed a quartet of innings of relief of the No. 9 overall Cardinals prospect and struck out six batters, all in succession between the third and fifth innings. The southpaw gave way to sidewinder righty Matt Hickey to make his home debut, before Andrew Marrero entered the contest after one and 1/3 innings.
Marrero was able to strand the automatic runner on second base in the 10th inning, and logged five strikeouts over three and 1/3 innings. However, Fort Myers' ghost runner scored in the 11th and the Connecticut native took the loss on Wednesday evening.
Palm Beach is back in action against Fort Myers on Thursday night, and it'll be Thirsty Thursday at the park! Enjoy $1, $2, and $3 beer specials presented by Southern Eagle Distributing!
