Crystal Palace Baltimore News Release
Baltimore, MD - Crystal Palace FC USA travels to Richmond on Saturday for their final fixture of the regular season. The Baltimore team will be hoping to put in a strong performance ahead of their 1st round home playoff match on Wednesday night. Palace currently sit in fourth place in the standings, one point behind Cleveland who close out their regular season with two tough away games on consecutive nights. If the City Stars fail to win at both Charlotte and Wilmington on Friday and Saturday night respectively, Palace can still sneak into third spot with a win in Richmond. The Kickers meanwhile have secured a first round bye and still have a chance to leapfrog Charlotte for top spot if they overcome Palace and Charlotte stumble.
Palace will need to shrug off the disappointment of their last performance - a 3-0 loss to second-from-bottom Bermuda at UMBC on Wednesday night. Palace finished in fifth place last year - their inaugural season - with 34 points, the same number they've amassed with one game remaining this season. After a 5-0 start to the season, a higher finish looked to be on the cards, but since then, Palace have proved inconsistent despite managing to send out a relatively consistent starting lineup.
"It will be good to take a look at Richmond again - we haven't seen them in a long time" said Palace Co-Manager Pete Medd, referring to the Kickers' May 4th visit to UMBC which ended in a 2-0 defeat for the visitors. "They're a different team now. They've gone an incredible run - they're probably the hottest team over the last couple of months."
"If we end up in fourth, we'll be in their bracket," Medd observed, "so it'll be good for our players to get used to the surroundings, get used to the field, which suits us as it's nice and wide. We'll probably play some different faces tomorrow than they may see the following week."
Palace will be without Paul Robson and Gary Brooks tomorrow night due to injuries. Both are questionable for Wednesday's playoff match.
Tickets for the 1st round playoff match, which kicks off at 7:30pm on Wednesday August 13th, are now available online at www.crystalpalaceusa.com or by phone at 410.933.TEAM.
