Crystal Palace Baltimore News Release
Baltimore, Md. - Sunday, July 18, marks a first in Palace Baltimore's history as they head to the Saputo Stadium to play the Montreal Impact at 2 p.m. It is the first time that Palace Baltimore (4-8-4) and the Montreal Impact (5-6-5) have ever played one another. Baltimore can ill afford to make an amicable first impression, though. Montreal currently occupies the spot above Palace in the NASL Conference standings and is four points ahead of them after playing the same number of games (16).
Palace has struggled in front of the net this season. They are currently tied with AC St. Louis for the fewest number of goals scored in the league (13) and so will definitely miss the services of the club's leading scorer, Randi Patterson. He was issued a straight red card in Wednesday's game against the Rhinos and will miss Sunday's fixture.
Palace, however, remain optimistic ahead of Sunday's game, bouyed by a great midweek performance. Baltimore kicked off the second half of their season on Wednesday night with an impressive display against the Rochester Rhinos at the Maryland SoccerPlex. The 0-0 scoreline could quite easily have been 3-0 had it not been for three big stops by Rhinos' Number One, Neal Kitson.
"We hope we can carry on the same way we did against Rochester," said Palace Head Coach, Jim Cherneski. "We held Rochester to two shots with zero on goal and kept possession well the whole game. We hope we can carry the momentum from the last game into the next game. We're looking forward to a good outing."
The Impact is fresh off a big 1-0 win at home over the Carolina RailHawks, handing the Carolina club its first road loss of the season. It is a win Montreal will be looking to build upon after a tough string of results that saw them drop nine points in three games before their win on Wednesday.
Palace's next game brings them back to the Maryland SoccerPlex to play AC St. Louis on Saturday July 24 at 3 p.m. Palace Baltimore fans can watch both games live by visiting the Palace Baltimore website a few minutes before the scheduled kickoff.
