Palace Baltimore Face Tough Test In Richmond

May 22, 2009 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Crystal Palace Baltimore News Release

Baltimore, MD - Crystal Palace Baltimore are on the road in Richmond on Saturday after a win and a loss in their back-to-back home stand last weekend at UMBC Stadium. Matthew Mbuta, on loan from Red Bull New York, scored in each match, garnering the USL2 Player of the Week award. Palace will be without Mbuta and fellow loanee Nick Zimmerman, who have returned to the MLS club.

Palace currently sit third place in the USL2 standings, four points ahead of Richmond in sixth. Richmond have played two games fewer than Palace however, with three ties, a win and a loss. Palace's last visit to the University of Richmond stadium in their final regular season game of 2008 saw the Kickers run out 5-0 winners, the heaviest defeat ever suffered by the Baltimore side.

"Richmond's a good team - they're always a good team" remarked Palace Baltimore Co-Manager Jim Cherneski. "But we've got to go down there for three points."

After making his Palace debut last weekend, defender Wale Adelusimi has re-injured his foot and is unlikely to make the trip to Richmond. Striker Larry Mark has now been cleared by the doctor and will hope to see some playing time this weekend as will former Richmond Kickers PDL defender/midfielder Alex Ughiovhe who has been nursing a nagging injury for the past two weeks.

Palace have little time to recover before heading back on the road again as they leave on Monday for Ludlow, Massachusetts where they'll face the Western Mass Pioneers on Tuesday night May 26 at 7:30pm. Palace are back in Baltimore on Friday May 29 at 7:30pm for the local derby with Real Maryland at UMBC Stadium. Tickets are selling well for this game so please visit http://www.crystalpalaceusa.com or call 410.933.TEAM(8326) to secure your seat.
