SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Guards Ira Graham and Jake Linton combined to score 40 points as their West squad defeated the East, 138-117, in the National Association of Basketball Coaches/NCAA Division-II All-Star Game at the Basketball Hall of Fame on Friday.
Both Graham and Linton took a break from the Bellingham Slam's training camp to participate in the event. Graham finished the game with 21 points on 9-of-17 shooting, while Linton added 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including five three-pointers. Graham also added five rebounds and four assists. Both players will re-join the Slam on Sunday in preparation for Bellingham's season opener on April 3 against Seattle.
Graham completed his senior season with Western Washington earlier this month, helping the Vikings return to the postseason for the first time in three seasons. As a senior, he averaged 19.1 points and 3.2 assists per game, became the first Viking to post two 500-point seasons, and was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference's Player of the Year.
Linton finished his Saint Martin's career as the program's all-time leading scorer with 2,044 points. Linton averaged 23.0 points and 4.9 assists per game during his senior season, and also set a new NCAA record for free-throw accuracy by shooting 92.4 percent for his career.
The Slam open the 2009 International Basketball League season on April 3 against the Seattle Mountaineers. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Whatcom Pavilion, with a free pre-game party starting at 6:00 p.m.
