DURHAM, N.C. â Former Sioux Falls corner infielder-outfielder Tagg Bozied and Albany-Colonie left-handed pitcher Aric LeClair are playing in the prestigious Arizona Fall League, an invitation-only league owned by Major League Baseball where top prospects are sent for more experience.
Bozied is tied for the AFL lead in home runs (6), ranks second in runs scored (13) and is third in runs batted in (18). He is hitting .275 through the Peoria Javelinas' first 18 games with two doubles in 69 at bats.
Leclair has an 0-1 record with a 12.15 earned run average in his first six relief appearances. In 6 2-3 innings for the Scottsdale Scorpions, he has given up 11 hits, nine earned runs and three walks with eight strikeouts.
Bozied, 23, signed with the Canaries before the 2001 season. He was drafted in the third round in 2001 by San Diego but continued to play for Sioux Falls while negotiations continued with the Padres. He hit .307 with 17 doubles, six homers, 37 RBIs and three stolen bases in 228 at bats for Sioux Falls.
The Padres purchased Bozied's contract in November of 2001. He hit .298 with 23 doubles, one triple, 15 homers, 60 RBIs and three stolen bases in 282 at bats for Single-A Lake Elsinore of the California League. San Diego promoted him to Double-A Mobile (Ala.) of the Southern League, where hit batted .214 with 14 doubles, nine homers, 32 RBIs and one stolen base in 234 at bats.
Leclair, 24, had his contract purchased by Kansas City from the Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs on July 23, 2002. He had spent two years in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization at Single-A South Bend (Midwest League) before his release and subsequent signing by Albany-Colonie.
Leclair posted a 2-0 record with three saves in 32 1-3 innings for Albany-Colonie. He pitched 17 1-3 scoreless innings for Kansas City's Single-A Burlington club in the Midwest League with a 1-0 record, three saves, six walks and 25 strikeouts.
