Chillicothe Paints News Release

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints (4-2), presented by Adena Health System, jumped out to a 5-0 lead en route to a 10-2 win over the Hannibal Hoots (3-5) Wednesday night at VA Memorial Stadium.

The first pitch in the bottom of the second inning was hit over the right field wall by Andrew Czech, his second home run in as many nights.

Gama Martinez made it 2-0 when he scored in the third inning on a Chad Roberts RBI fielder's choice.

The fourth inning saw three Paints cross home plate. Trace Hatfield hit a leadoff double, followed by a Ben Beachy walk. A passed ball allowed Hatfield to score from second and Beachy to advance to third. Malik Jones, making his Paints debut, singled home Beachy and then scored after a balk and an RBI single by Martinez. The Paints led 5-0 after four.

Hannibal was able to scratch across runs in the sixth and seventh to cut the Chillicothe lead to 5-2.

The Paints erased all doubt with a five-run eighth, with the exclamation point being a three-run triple by Drew DeVine to make it 9-2. DeVine then scored on a wild pitch to cap the scoring at 10-2.

Martinez, Beachy, Czech, Hatfield and Jones each collected two hits. DeVine drove in three.

Canyon McWilliams (1-0) got the win in his first start of the summer. He held Hannibal scoreless over five innings, allowed just two hits and struck out eight. Paints pitchers did not walk a batter in the game.

Hannibal's starter, Quinton Kujawa (0-2), took the loss. He allowed five runs on eight hits, walked two and struck out five over five innings.

The Paints and Hoots play again in Chillicothe Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Draft beer will be just $1 for Thirsty Thursday.
