Missoula PaddleHeads News Release
On a day the PaddleHeads celebrated Missoula Pro Baseball's past by wearing Missoula Timberjacks throwback jerseys, RF Lamar Sparks and 3B Kamron Willman each drove home three runs to lead the Missoula PaddleHeads past the Ogden Raptors 8-7 on Sunday afternoon at Ogren Park Allegiance Field. The win solidified a series win for the PaddleHeads over the Raptors in the first series of the 2nd half. Both teams won their respective 1st halves to qualify for playoffs at season's end. Missoula's win took the six game series 4 games to 2 for the PaddleHeads who have the best overall record in the league at 39-14 which is 7 1/2 games better than the next best team record wise. The PaddleHeads used a 4-run 4th inning capped by Sparks' 2-run double to take the lead for good. Relievers Palmer Wenzel and Sam Hellinger closed the door on the Raptors over the final 5 innings to seal the win. Offensively, 1B Jayson Newman excited the crowd with his league leading 23 homerun, a 437 foot blast in the 3rd. Newman is now only 3 homeruns short of tying the Pioneer League record of 26 homeruns set by former PaddleHead Zac Almond last year and Newman has almost a full half of the season remaining.
During the game, the PaddleHeads paid homage to former Missoula Timberjack pitcher Jim Kaat who was inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame today.
Monday will be an off day for the PaddleHeads before they head on the road to Kalispell to face the Glacier Range Riders for a six game series. The series will go from Tuesday to Sunday this week. Missoula is 7-2 against the expansion Range Riders so far this season. The PaddleHeads will return home for a three game series versus the Great Falls Voyagers Tuesday, August 2nd through Thursday, August 4th.
