Providence Bruins News Release
Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins avoided being swept by the Providence Bruins with a 3-1 victory Saturday evening. Carter Camper scored the lone Providence goal, while Niklas Svedberg made 19 saves in the defeat. The P-Bruins lead the best of seven series three-games-to-one with game 5 in Wilkes-Barre Saturday at 7:05pm.
Providence controlled the puck for the majority of the game's first five minutes, and it paid dividends a couple minutes later. Camper scored the first and only goal of the first period at the 7:37 mark of the frame. Jordan Caron worked the puck behind Brad Thiessen's cage, held it for a moment, and slipped a pass right to the tape of Camper's stick. Camper's wrister snuck just inside the near post from the far side of the crease. It was Camper's eighth goal of the postseason. The P-Bruins led 1-0 going into the first intermission.
The Penguins scored to tie the game at one in the second period at the 6:25 mark. Warren Peters notched his third goal of the playoffs with some help from Adam Payerl and Joey Mormina. Peters' shot careened off of Ryan Button inside the near post. Riley Holzapfel lit the lamp with the go ahead goal off of Svedberg after the Pens swept the puck through the zone. Holzapfel's bid bounced off of the Providence netminder and wobbled below the crossbar at the 16:50 mark. A minute and seven seconds later, a screen in front of the net produced an insurance goal for the Penguins. Mormina registered his first goal of the 2013 postseason campaign from Brian Gibbons and Holzapfel. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton led 3-1 after two periods.
After a scoreless third period, the Penguins held on for the 3-1 victory.
Thiessen made 31 saves in the win for the Penguins. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton ended the game 1-for-2 on the man advantage, while the Bruins were held scoreless on the power play in four tries.
