P-Bruins Defeat Penguins 4-0 in Game 1

Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Providence Bruins defeated the WB/Scranton Penguins tonight in Game 1 of their Round 2 series by a final score of 4-0. Alexander Khokhlachev registered 2 goals and 1 assist, while Niklas Svedberg stopped all 20 shots he faced for the shutout win.

Scoring Summary: Providence opened the scoring just 1:33 into the game as Alexander Khokhlachev netted his third goal of the playoffs off an assist from Matt Lindblad to give the P-Bruins a 1-0 lead. Later in the period the lead was extended to 2-0 as Craig Cunningham scored on the power play, assisted by Khokhlachev and Ryan Spooner. The scoring continued :45 seconds later as Andrew Cherniwchan found the back of the net to make it 3-0 Providence, assisted by Nick Johnson and Alexander Fallstrom. Just :15 seconds later Khokhlachev struck for a second time, again assisted by Lindblad, to make it 4-0.

Notes: Providence finished the game with 28 shots, going 1 for 8 on the power play on the night... WB/Scranton finished with 20 shots, going 0 for 5 on the power play... Niklas Svedberg earned First Star honors with the 20 save shutout...

The teams return to the ice in Wilkes-Barre for Game 2 tomorrow night at 7:05. The series shifts to Providence for Game 3 on Wednesday, May 14 at 7:05.
