FOREST CITY- Steven Pallares delivered at the plate and on the mound on Saturday night to close out the first half of the season.After recording four hits in as many at-bats, Pallares took the mound in the ninth striking out the side and the Owls (17-11) came out on top of High Point-Thomasville(12-15) 8-7.In an offensive battle, the Owls scored four runs in the sixth with RBI's from Owens, Gibson and Sheehan to take a six to one lead, but the Hi-Toms answered right back in the seventh and got three of their own.The scoring continued the next half inning after Eric Cheray and Conor Clancey came into score on past balls.The Hi-Toms would get three more in the 8th before Pallares shut the door in the ninth to get his first save of the year.àMatthew Smith took the mound for the Owls going six innings allowing just one run on three hits and struck out four before Colin Hightower, Orlando Razo and Pallares finished out the game.àSmith remains undefeated on the year with five wins.àPallares led the Owls offensively with four hits, two stolen bases and an RBI and was joined by four other Owls who had an RBI each (Cheray, Gibson, Sheehan, Owens).àThe Owls will take on Kernersville in an exhibition game on Monday night at 7:30 in Forest City.The Owls will continue the 2014 season at home Monday night they take on Kernersville at 7:30. Fans can purchase season tickets, ý season plans and 5-game Fireworks plans by calling the Owls office at 828-245-0000. Key dates for the 2014 season include: Fireworks Games on Saturday July 5th and Saturday August 2nd. Single game tickets are on sale now. The Owls will also take on the Chinese Taipei National team on July 7th.àThe Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 18th season in 2014, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. The CPL has had over 1,100 alumni drafted and 65 of those - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut; while another notable alum - Russell Wilson - won Super Bowl XLVIII.
