Forest City Owls News Release
Forest City, NC- The Forest City Owls kept the Fayetteville SwampDogs running game at bay, and took Game 1 of the best-of-three series 2-1 on Wednesday night. Will Chandler went 2-for-2 with an RBI, and made the play of the game defensively. With two outs in the top of the 7th inning, Mike Tauchman lined a single up the middle. Nate Chong's throw from centerfield took Chandler up the third base line, but the Owls' catcher made a terrific play, reaching back to tag out Andrew Parker at the plate to keep the game tied at one.
After a leadoff single by Alex Close in the bottom of the 7th, Chandler dropped an intended sacrifice bunt that was muffed by reliever James Simmons. Luke Tollison then sacrificed both runners into scoring position before Dykota Spiess was intentionally walked. Then, Champ Rowland grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Close to give Forest City the 2-1 edge.
Drake Thomason pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win. Hunter Privette worked around a pair of two-out singles to keep the Owls in front in the 8th inning. Jake Padgett closed out Fayetteville in the 9th for his second save of the playoffs.
Chandler provided the first run of the game in the 4th inning with an RBI single to score Close. Joe Ciamacco tied it up in the 5th for Fayetteville with a two-out, RBI base hit, scoring Connor Obrochta.
The Owls head to Fayetteville tomorrow to try and close out the series. If a Game 3 is necessary, the SwampDogs will host it on Friday night.
