San Diego Riptide News Release
SAN DIEGO -- Over 100 potential players from all around the country with prior playing experience in the NFL, CFL, AFL and arenafootball2 came out to Scripps Ranch High School on Saturday morning to tryout for the San Diego Riptide.
Riptide Head Coach Cree Morris will review individuals stats and the video tape, then make decisions next week on which players he will invite to the Riptide's 2003 training camp. Last year, 27 players either came to training camp or were on the active roster, including All-af2 WR/LB Rico Curtis.
"I'm very excited about today's turnout because you never know who's going to tryout," says Morris. "I feel that there's a bunch of guys out here today that have a chance to make our team."
The Riptide, the 2002 af2 Expansion Franchise of the Year, will play eight home games in 2003 beginning in April at the San Diego Sports Arena. Last season, the Riptide finished 7-9 in the regular season before beating division champion Bakersfield in the first round of the playoffs and falling to the eventual ArenaCup champions (Peoria) in the National Conference Semi-Finals.
Riptide 2003 season tickets and special group packages are NOW on sale. For more information, call 866-RIPTIDE, or log onto sandiegoriptide.com.
