North Iowa Outlaws News Release
(Mason City, IA) Visiting Southern Minnesota skated to an 8-3 victory over the North Iowa Outlaws Sunday afternoon at North Iowa Ice Arena. The win was the fourth straight for the Express. All four victories have come at the expense of the Outlaws.
Mike Wallgren (Oakdale, MN) gave the Outlaws an early lead, with his fourth goal of the season, with just 2:02 elapsed. Alex Tuckerman (Orleans, MA) and Max Mobley (Glendale, AZ) picked up assists on the goal.
As has been the case in recent games, the Express scored in bunches, rattling off five unanswered goals after Wallgren's score. Three of those goals came on power plays. Jason Wiley netted both of his goals on the game, while Southern Minnesota enjoyed man advantages. P.J. Kavaya netted the other power play goal for the Express. During the five-goal outburst, Mike Montgomery and Alex Coles scored, while the teams were at full strength.
Patrick Dynan (Maple Plain, MN) gave the Outlaws some hope late in the second period, with a short-handed goal, which was set up beautifully by Steve McLeod (Atikokan, Ontario, Canada). That hope was short-lived, through, as Southern Minnesota netted a pair of goals in the first four minutes of the final period, to put the game out of reach. Coles and J.P. Perpich rang the bell for Southern Minnesota in that span, to give the Express a 7-3 margin. The teams traded goals the rest of the way. McLeod and Dynan assisted on a Chris Mackay (Missouri City, TX) score at the 4:54 mark. It was Mackay's fourth goal of the year. Jamie Ruff closed out the scoring in the final minute of the game, to account for Southern Minnesota's eighth goal. The Express out-shot North Iowa in the contest, 40-31.
The Outlaws will look to halt their eight-game winless streak this coming Friday and Saturday, in Springfield, IL. The Outlaws will play the Springfield Jr. Blues for the first time in club history Friday night. Game time in Springfield is set for 7:30. Radio coverage of that game will be available on a tape delay Friday night, on Eagle Country, KY102.7 FM in the North Iowa region. The play-by-play broadcast will air sometime around 9:45 Friday night, following the Newman Knights' High School basketball doubleheader with Lake Mills. Saturday's game between the Outlaws and Springfield will air live on Eagle Country, KY102.7, at 7:05 PM. Springfield is in fourth place in the NAHL South Division, with 27 points, and a 12-11-3 record. The Outlaws remain tied with Bismarck for fourth place in the NAHL Central Division, as each squad has 22 points.
