North Iowa Outlaws News Release

(Owatonna, MN) The Southern Minnesota Express Junior "A" Hockey team defeated the North Iowa Outlaws 6-1 Saturday night at the Four Seasons Centre in Owatonna. Southern Minnesota's win was its second in as many nights against the Outlaws.

As was the case Friday night, the second period proved to be decisive, for both teams. The Express built on its one goal first period lead, padding the advantage with three scores in a six-minute stretch early in the second. Mike Montgomery's short-handed goal was part of that surge, to help Southern Minnesota build a 4-0 lead entering the final 20 minutes of play.

Alex McRae (Mindora, WI) netted the lone goal for the Outlaws at the 5:49 mark of the final period. It came when North Iowa enjoyed a two-man advantage. McRae's power play goal was assisted by Mike Bernardy (Sandy, UT).

Six different players scored for the Express, which is now 14-8-3 on the season. Montgomery, Ryan Guentzel, and Brian Schack each collected a goal and an assist.

The Outlaws, who were without the services of leading scorer Patrick Dynan (Maple Plain, MN), remain in fourth place in the North American Hockey League's Central Division. They are two points ahead of the Bismarck Bobcats, who dropped a 3-0 decision Saturday night to the league's hottest team, the Bozeman Icedogs. North Iowa is now winless in its last six games, going 0-4-2 during the month of November.

Next weekend, the Outlaws and the Express get together again, for a home-and-home series. Saturday's game at Four Seasons Centre in Owatonna will begin at 5:05, and will be the front end of a Junior Hockey-High School Hockey doubleheader. The Outlaws will return to the friendly confines of North Iowa Ice Arena next Sunday afternoon, December 4th, for a 1:35 game versus the Express.
