North Iowa Outlaws News Release

For the first time since the break, and only the second time since the NAHL Showcase, the North Iowa Outlaws battled a team ouside the Central Division, continuing their road swing in Topeka, Kansas. The Outlaws and Roadrunners exchanged goals in the opening period, and skated to a scoreless second period setting up an exciting third if your an Outlaws fan. North Iowa struck for three goals during a four minute span that deflated the Roadrunners, and Austin Maginnis shut the door on 29 of 30 shots as the Outlaws knocked off TOpeka 4-1.

The outlaws looked refreshed in the first period skating hard and challenging the Roadrunners shift after shift, but Topeka found the board first. A turnover behind the Outlaws net left Eriah Hayes open in front. Austin Maginnis got a piece of the shot but not enough as the Roadrunners took a 1-0 lead. NOrth Iowa answered, reviving a power play that went 0 for 19 last weekend in Springfield. Max Mobley and Shea Walters moved the puck wuickly behind the Topeka net, confusing Roadrunners netminder Bryce Merriam. Mobley finally moved the puck out front where Alex Carlson sat wide open for the eaqualizer to end the first period.

Topeka continued to fire pucks at Austin Maginnis but the Mason City native seemed to get stronger as the period went on. North Iowa took back to back penalties and were forced to kill off 1:45 of 5-on-3. Despite numerous chances, North Iowa was successful and nearly converted on their second power play goal of the night, but a rolling puck came to a rest on the back of Merriam and was cleared by the Topeka defense as the second period came to a close tied at 1.

OPening the third period with the man advantage, North Iowa nearly found the net but the game remained tied. Two minutes into the period the Outlaws got a power play and capitalized as Reed RUshing found a loose puck in the slot, sending it flying into the net for a 2-1 lead. Less then four minutes later the Roadrunner found themselves down 4-1 as Tyler Romasco and Max Mobley tickled the twine in a four minute stretch where the Coyote destroyed the Roadrunners hopes of a comeback.

Max Mobley finished with a goal and two assist while Shea Walters also completed the playmaker. A struggling Outlaws power play finished 2 for 7 on the night and the strong penalty kill held one of the best power plays off the board all night. The Outlaws finish their series with Topeka on Saturday at 7:05 pm.
