Chicago Machine News Release

The Chicago Machine came out strong against the Denver Outlaws on Saturday night at Invesco Field, kicking off the first game in franchise history. Steve Dusseau wound up for a low shot to score the first goal of the game for the Machine, and Denver was quick to see another goal fly past them when Josh Coffman made a spectacular dive to goal with a high corner shot past Denver's goaltender, Trevor Tierney. But after scoring four goals in the first quarter, the Machine fell back rapidly and suffered a 24-14 defeat.

Denver began to retaliate when Jeff Sonke put a shot in past Machine goaltender Nick Murtha. Seven seconds later, Doug Shanahan with the Machine scored the first two-point goal of the game and brought the score to 4-1. But the Machine was overpowered in the rest of the first quarter while the Outlaws brought 10 more goals into the cage and ended with 11 goals to Chicago's 4 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Machine held their ground and scored three goals with the Outlaws scoring the same. The third quarter proved to be an equal match as well with both teams putting in 5 goals.

With a large set-back during the first quarter, the Machine was unable to bring itself back ahead of the Outlaws.

"We came out strong, but we didn't sustain the momentum," stated Kevin Finneran, Head Coach of the Chicago Machine. "Tonight we were off our game plan. Everytime we would score a couple, they would come back."

The first game for 2006 expansion teams had a record crowd at Invesco Field at Mile-High Stadium bringing in 13,167 fans to watch the Machine and Outlaws go head to head.

The Chicago Machine travels next weekend to Baltimore to take on the Bayhawks and will host their home-opener on June 3rd when they compete against the San Francisco Dragons.
