North Iowa Outlaws News Release

(Mason City, IA) The North Iowa Outlaws' Junior "A" Hockey team has announced that a number of new faces will join the team over the next couple of days, as the team looks to break out of a recent slump.

Early Thursday, the Outlaws announced that forward David Kirsch (Superior, CO) and defenseman Josh Seifert (Superior, WI) were traded to the Bismarck Bobcats. In exchange, North Iowa will receive defenseman Nikki Holt and a tender to use, prior to the 2006-07 season. Holt, who has a 1986 birth year, is a six-foot, 180 pound defenseman from Hermantown, MN. He did not score this season, in 14 games with the Bobcats.

Kirsch played in 23 of 25 games for the Outlaws, scoring seven points. He netted three goals, while adding four assists. After previously playing with Fairbanks and Central Texas in the 2004-05 season, Bismarck will be the fourth NAHL squad to employ Kirsch's services. Seifert, in his first year of Junior "A" Hockey, scored one goal and added six assists, in 25 games for the Outlaws.

Defenseman Art Clark will also join the North Iowa Outlaws this weekend. He is a six-foot, 195 pound defenseman from Bloomington, MN that the team acquired from Santa Fe, in exchange for a future draft pick. Clark recorded two assists, without a goal, in 16 games for Santa Fe this season. He was once a teammate of current Outlaws' player Ben Boulay, when the two attended Bloomington Kennedy High School. Clark has a 1985 birth year.

The Outlaws will add a player, who will make the jump from High School Hockey, to the Junior ranks. Derek Elliott joins the Outlaws this weekend. A 5-9, 165 pound forward, Elliott has seen playing time, with the Des Moines Capitals in the Iowa High School Hockey League. In 13 games this season for the Capitals, Elliott was been setting a blistering pace, with 18 goals scored and 19 assists. Elliott scored the game's only goal last Saturday night, in the Capitals' 1-0 victory over the Mason City Mohawks at North Iowa Ice Arena.

A trade is currently being consummated between the Outlaws and Helena, that would bring defenseman Daryl Dee from the Bighorns. In exchange, the Outlaws will part with a tender that Helena will use before the 2006-07 season. Dee, who has a 1986 birth year, is a six-foot, 175 pound defenseman from Garland, TX who recorded a goal and an assist, in 15 games for the Bighorns this season. Pending approval by the NAHL office, the trade should become official in time for Dee to join the team, for a pair of games next weekend in Springfield, IL.

The Outlaws, a first-year club, currently stands fourth, in the tightly contested NAHL Central Division. Their home schedule in December includes a pair of Sunday afternoon games. This coming Sunday, North Iowa's Most Wanted will challenge the Southern Minnesota Express at 1:35. Then on December 18th, the Outlaws will host Bismarck, which will bring both David Kirsch and Josh Seifert back to North Iowa Ice Arena. That game will also mark the return for Bobcats' forward Alex Maginnis, who starred in High School hockey, with the Mohawks' program. The Outlaws' final home game in December will be at 7:30 PM New Year's Eve, December 31st, when the team hosts Springfield. Tickets for all home games are available on game nights at North Iowa Ice Arena. Advance tickets can also be purchased at a number of locations in the Mason City/Clear Lake area, including the Outlaws' Outpost store, at Southbridge Mall, Mason City.
