North Iowa Outlaws News Release
(Springfield, IL) The Springfield Jr. Blues hockey team halted a three-game home losing streak Saturday night, with a 2-0 shutout win over the North Iowa Outlaws at the Nelson Recreation Center in Springfield.
Both goalies played well between the pipes. Jay Clark (Baudette, MN), making his second start in as many nights for the Outlaws, halted 34 of 35 shots that came his way, including a penalty shot off the stick of Matt Staehely in the second period. Clark, though, was out-dueled by the Jr. Blues Adam Roy, who finished with 29 saves, to earn the shutout. Roy got the offensive support he needed late in the second period. Ryan Hernandez netted his fourth goal of the season at 13:27, and that would stand up as the game-winner. Springfield's leading scorer, Kyle O'Kane, put home an empty-net goal with 17 seconds remaining, to create the final scoring margin.
The Jr. Blues pull into their holiday break with a record of 13-12-3, and will resume their NAHL regular season schedule Friday, December 30th, hosting the Outlaws at the Nelson Center. The North Iowa loss, combined with Bismarck's 6-2 victory over the Alexandria Blizzard Saturday night, fall out of a fourth place tie with the Bobcats. The Outlaws will be back on the ice this coming Thursday at 7:05 PM in Fargo, to play the Fargo-Moorhead Jets. Then North Iowa's Most Wanted will host Bismarck next Sunday at North Iowa Ice Arena in Mason City, with game time slated for 1:35.
