Outlaws announce 2006-07 regular season slate
August 17, 2006 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
North Iowa Outlaws News Release
(Mason City, IA) The North Iowa Outlaws' Junior "A" Hockey team will open its second season in less than a month, with four games in the North American Hockey League Showcase at Blaine, MN. The first home game will be September 30th, and will be the first of 29 regular season contests at North Iowa Ice Arena in Mason City.
The Springfield Jr. Blues will provide the opposition for the Outlaws' home opener on Saturday, September 30th at 7:05 PM. It will be one of five home games between the Outlaws and Springfield during the 2006-07 regular season. All five of those games will be played before the beginning of the 2007 calendar year.
Seven different opponents will challenge the Outlaws at North Iowa Arena this coming season. This will include the Alaska Avalanche and the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, along with the five NAHL Central rivals: Alexandria, Bismarck, Fargo-Moorhead, Southern Minnesota, and Springfield.
For the second consecutive year, the Outlaws' most frequent opponent on the schedule will be Southern Minnesota, which is based out of Owatonna. The squads will clash a total of 14 times. However, the first meeting between the teams will not be until the Outlaws' 19th game of the season, on Sunday, November 12th.
Each of the Central Division opponents will face the Outlaws a minimum of eight times in 2006-07. 48 of North Iowa's 62 regular season games will be against NAHL Central foes.
The Outlaws' organization is excited to announce that nearly all of the team's home games will have a consistent start time, of 7:05 PM. In the team's inaugural season, the 27 home games included no less than five different start times, depending on the day of the week. The exception to the 7:05 start time will be a home game versus the Alexandria Blizzard on February 18th, which will begin at 5:00 PM. The Outlaws and the Blizzard will also square off in a rare Wednesday night game at North Iowa Arena the day before Thanksgiving, on November 22nd. The 29-game home slate is highlighted by match-ups versus Springfield on New Year's Eve and Fairbanks on St. Patrick's Day.
The Outlaws' NAHL Showcase schedule will include games versus Alpena on September 13th, the St. Louis Bandits on September 14th, the U.S. National Development Team program (USNDTP) Friday evening, September 15th, and a match-up with the three-time defending NAHL Champion Texas Tornado on September 16th.
