BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 22, 2002) – The Bakersfield Blitz staff, coaches and players continue to support the community by making appearances at public events around the city of Bakersfield and the outlying areas.

Recent Appearances:

  • Saturday, March 16 – Blitz staff members, coaches, players and dance team members held a barbecue in honor of the beginning to the 2002 season. The barbecue was held at the BlitzÂ’ practice facility located at the Friendship House Community Center on Cottonwood Road in Bakersfield.
  • Monday, March 18 – Training camp began for the 2002 season of arenafootball2. The Blitz kicked off camp Monday morning at Belle Terrace Park with 38 players in camp and began two-a-day practices for the first week.
  • Wednesday, March 20 – The Blitz held an All-Star banquet meeting for the players in the first annual Kern County High School All-Star BlitzBowl, to be played on April 3rd. Players from all over Kern County attended as they prepare to battle it out for bragging rights in the Centennial Garden on the 3rd.

  • Friday, March 22 – Members of the Blitz Dance Team will be at the Centennial Garden greeting people at the conclusion of the Motocross event.
  • Saturday, March 23 – Blitz Dance Team members will be greeting people and handing out information on the Blitz season outside of the Centennial Garden at the conclusion of the motocross event.
  • Saturday, March 30 – “Blitz Week” begins as the start of the inaugural season of af2 football for the Blitz begins. “Blitz Week” runs from March 30 to April 4. On March 30, the Centennial Garden will be transformed into a football arena as the turf will be laid down for the week and the pads will go up.

  • Tuesday, April 2 – Media day for the Blitz will be held in the Centennial Garden from 7:30-8:30 pm. The media is invited to meet the players, get interviews, video and pictures of the players for use throughout the season.
  • Tuesday, April 2 – The “BlitzBowl I” banquet will be held for all players involved in the high school All-Star game.
  • Tuesday, April 2 – Blitz representatives will be on hand at the Centennial Garden for Tag-A-Seat night. It is a chance for season ticket holders to come to the Garden and pick up their tickets and itÂ’s also a chance to check out what seats are still available for season ticket purchases.
  • Wednesday, April 3 – The Kern County High School All-Star “BlitzBowl” will be held in the Centennial Garden, beginning at 7:30 pm. The game is an all-star game for high school seniors in Kern County.
  • Wednesday, April 3 – Along with the BlitzBowl, season tickets will be dispersed at the game and seats will be tagged to show what is available for season ticket purchases.
  • Thursday, April 4 – The Georgia Force and Los Angeles Avengers will square off in the Centennial Garden for an Arena Football League pre-season game. The game is set to kick off at 7:30 pm.
  • Thursday, April 4 – Season ticket holders will have a chance to pick up their season tickets during the Avenger game. Season tickets will also be on sale during the game and seats will be tagged to show what is available.
  • Monday, April 15 – Members of the Blitz staff and dance team will be at the Boys & Girls Club golf tournament at Seven Oaks Country Club from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm.

The Bakersfield Blitz kicks off its inaugural season on April 6th at San Diego. The first home game is April 20th at the Centennial Garden against the Louisville Fire. Kickoff is set for 7 pm with the pre-game tailgate party starting at 5:30 in front of the Garden.

More than two million fans have attended arenafootball2 games in the league's two-year history. In 2000, af2 began its inaugural season with 15 teams. The league expanded to 28 teams in 2001, making it the fastest single-league expansion in the history of sports.
