Erie Otters News Release

The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League get back at it tomorrow (Friday) night when they complete the back half of a home-and-home series against the Guelph Storm at the Guelph Sports and Entertainment Centre.

Saturday at 7:30 p.m. the Otters complete weekend action on home ice against the Peterborough Petes. The first 500 children (12 and under) receive a free Otters Game Puck courtesy of Career Concepts. The first 5,000 fans will also receive a free Otters Team Poster Calendar. Tickets for the game are available at all Erie-area TicketMaster locations as well as the Civic Center Box Office.

The Otters recent struggles continued Wednesday night as the Storm worked their way to a 3-1 victory at the Tullio Arena. The loss left the Otters at 16-25-3-2 on the season and two points behind the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Mike Blunden was the Otters lone goal scorer in the game as he collected his 36th of the season. The veteran forward has scored at least one goal in the last four games (five goals) and has seven goals in his last six games played. Ryan O'Marra registered an assist Wednesday night to extend his point-scoring streak to a season long seven games (2-7-9).

Heading into Thursday's OHL action the Storm (30-15-0-2) stand tied with the Kitchener Rangers and only two points behind the London Knights for first in the Western Conference, although Guelph has played two more games than the Rangers and three more than the Knights. The Storm have won two-in-a-row and seven of their last 10 overall.

They've also won five straight on home ice.

Friday's game can be heard live on SportsRadio 1330 The FAN and on line at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company) beginning with the pre-game show at 7:15 p.m.

Saturday the OHL-leading Petes make their only regular season visit to the Tullio Arena. Peterborough is 33-10-1-0 on the season and are rated fourth in the CHL Weekly Top-10.

Daniel Ryder leads a balanced Petes attack in scoring with 25 goals and 25 assists for 50 points in 43 games. Jamie Tardif's 26 goals are the club high while Steve Downie has 25 points in only 15 games.

In the only other meeting between the two teams this season, the Petes rallied from a third-period deficit to top the Otters 6-5 in overtime on November 17th in Peterborough.
