Evansville Otters News Release
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Evansville Otters saw their nine-game win streak brought to a close Thursday night with a 5-4 loss to the Schaumburg Boomers.
Schaumburg got on the board first in the first inning as Mike Hart hit a two-out, solo home run.
In the third, the lead grew to 4-0 with three straight RBI singles from Braxton Davidson, Matt Bottcher and William Salas.
Evansville finally got to Kyle Arjona in the fourth as Jeffrey Baez hit his eighth home run of the season, this one good for two runs.
The 4-2 Boomer lead carried into the seventh inning when the Otters capitalized on an error from Arjona. With George Callil on third, Anthony Torreullas flied to center field for a sacrifice fly RBI, bringing the Otters to within one.
As Augie Gallardo entered the game for the Otters in the ninth, Schaumburg hit him for some insurance. After allowing the bases loaded, Gallardo allowed a single run on a fielder's choice. From there, Evansville's defense shut the door in the top of the ninth.
Trailing 5-3, the Otters began the bottom of the ninth with back-to-back strikeouts. Evansville pulled within one when Devin Buckner hit a solo home run to left, his first professional home run. The comeback ended there, as a strikeout ended the game.
Kyle Arjona earned the win, advancing to 3-4 on the year. Austin Gossmann allowed four runs in his second loss of the season. Jake Joyce grabbed his fourth save of the season in the ninth.
In his professional baseball debut, Buckner had a two-hit outing, his first professional hits.
Baez was the only other Otter with a multi-hit outing and the sole Otter with multiple RBIs.
The Evansville win streak ended at nine games, tied for a franchise record.
Up next, the Otters welcome the Florence Y'alls to town for a three-game weekend set. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with Bosse Field's gates opening at 5:30 p.m.
