Ottawa SkyHawks News Release

Ottawa - To mark this year's RBC Sports Day in Canada, a national celebration of sport, from grassroots to high -performance levels, the Ottawa SkyHawks are playing a home game against the Windsor Express on Friday, November 29th, 2013 at 7:30pm, at Canadian Tire Centre. Fans that wear a jersey from any sport will receive a free ticket to a future game.

"Sport is a universal language that inspires and unites people," said Kelly Murumets, President and CEO of ParticipACTION, the national voice of physical activity and sport participation in Canada. "It's also a way that adults, children and youth can learn new skills, make new friends, and challenge themselves, all while becoming more physically active and, ultimately, leading to healthier, more active lifestyles."

RBC Sports Day in Canada, on Saturday, November 30, demonstrates that sport has the power to build community, fortify national spirit and promote healthy, active living. RBC Sports Day in Canada caps off a week of more than 1,000 local events and activities, such as community-wide festivals, try-it days, open houses, games, competitions, meet-and-greets, tournaments, fun runs, spectator events and pep rallies, and includes a special broadcast on CBC Television.

"Canadian research tells us that the vast majority of Canadians believe that community-based sport can have a positive influence in the lives of our children and youth," said Karri Dawson, Director of True Sport Operations at the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport. "When sport is inclusive, fair, fun and fosters the pursuit of personal excellence, Canadians and the communities where they live can reap the benefits associated with a positive sport experience."

"RBC is committed to helping Canadian youth lead happy and healthy lives, and recognize the lifelong lessons gained through sport," said Jane Broderick, Chief Brand and Communications Officer, RBC. "We are proud to sponsor RBC Sports Day in Canada and have the opportunity to encourage Canadians to participate in sport, embrace active living and strengthen our national pride." Ottawa SkyHawks President, Gus Takkale says he's thrilled to be part of this important day.

"There are so many great benefits to sports for our children, from physical development to self- esteem and as a social setting to make friends and spend time with family. As a parent, I constantly remind myself that the attitudes and behaviours taught to my kids now will carry over for life. I'm proud to take part with the rest of Canada for National Jersey Day and I look forward to seeing you at the game Friday, united in sports.

New Head Coach and former NBA Champion, Jaren Jackson is excited to coach what will be his second game on National Jersey Day. "I plan to play an integral role in the Ottawa community. I cherish teaching life's lessons to young athletes through the language of basketball."
