Ottawa Fury FC Ready for Semifinal Test against Vancouver Whitecaps FC
Published on May 31, 2016 under North American Soccer League (NASL) News Release
NEW YORK - In its first ever appearance in the Amway Canadian Championship semifinal round, Ottawa Fury FC will welcome MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps FC to TD Place on Wednesday night. The two clubs have never squared off before, and the first of two legs will take place in the nation's capital.
Fury FC outlasted fellow NASL side FC Edmonton, 3-2, on aggregate to advance further than ever before. Ottawa had lost to the Eddies in the two previous editions of the competition. Paul Dalglish's side was paced by goals from Fernando Timbó, Idan Vered, and Carl Haworth in a 3-0 victory in Edmonton before holding on and advancing despite a 2-0 loss at home.
Fury FC kicks off the semifinal series at TD Place, where it feels extremely comfortable. In fact, Ottawa was riding a nine-game unbeaten streak that dated all the way back to last year until falling, 2-1, to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers last Saturday. Putting the result aside, Ottawa's performance against the Strikers was an encouraging one, with the club dominating the game and doing everything aside from finding the equalizing and game-winning goals.
Vancouver enters the competition as the defending champions. Whitecaps FC is currently in third place in the MLS Western Conference, and it has been led by Pedro Morales, who has scored six goals to go along with three assists. Vancouver heads into the first leg on a two-game winless streak after tying the Houston Dynamo, 1-1, and losing to the Portland Timbers, 4-2.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET and the game can be seen live on TSN1 and TSN GO.
