MISSOULA, MT - Trying to continue their momentum from a two-game sweep of Helena, the Missoula Osprey managed to collect plenty of hits, but could not turn the baserunners into runs on Saturday here at Ogren Park Allegiance Field.
In a 9-3 loss to the Billings Mustangs, the Osprey collected 11 base hits, but left 10 men on the bases, while the Mustangs scored at least a run in seven of their nine at-bats.
Missoula (9-22, 18-51) had four players with two hits apiece - Bobby Stone, who homered; Kyle Greene, Alberto Diaz and Rossmel Perez, while Jake Elmore tripled, Reynaldo Navarro doubled and Isaias Ascencio added a RBI single.
The pitching, though, was not up to the task. Rafael Quezada (2-7) struggled in his four innings, surrendering four runs. Both Miles Reagan and Victor Cappelan surrendered three runs in two innings of work, while Keny Sosa pitched a scoreless seventh inning.
In a repeat of the series in Billings earlier this week, the top two batters in the lineup did a lot of damage. Cody Puckett led off the game with a home run, and went 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Alex Buchholz, who batted second in the order, went 4-for-6 with two RBIs, improving his batting average to .409 for the season, and to .576 (19-for-31) against Osprey pitching.
The Osprey and Mustangs will wrap up their two-game series on Sunday, as the Osprey play their final home game of the 2008 season. Brett Moorhouse (0-3, 11.12) will make the start for the Osprey, while Evan Hildrebrandt (0-0, 18.00) will throw for the Mustangs in a battle of right-handers.
Tickets are available by visiting the Missoula Osprey office at 412 W. Alder St., or by calling (406) 543-3300.
