OSC Weekly Ratings Wrapup

WNBA Makes its Debut

The WNBA began its season on ABC this past weekend. Below are the numbers for their debut, and for the MLS on FS1.

The WNBA had 452k viewers on a holiday Saturday afternoon on ABC. This is about what the Alliance of American Football averaged for their games this past winter. One difference though is that the AAF was doing considerably better in the 18-49 demo. For example, the March 31st AAF game on TNT pulled 469k viewers, very similar to the WNBA game, but the demo rating came in at 0.16, over 50% better than the WNBA.

MLS saw a slight uptick from last week, but for the most part it remained right in the same 140-180k wheelhouse of viewers on FS1.

Last Week's OSC Leagues Ratings Summary:

Saturday May 25
WNBA on ABC, 3:30p0.09/452k

Sunday May 19
MLS on FS1, 6pm0.06/182k (last week: FS1 5pm, .05/147k)

In the next few weeks "alternative" leagues start heating up for the summer on U.S. TV. The new touring Professional Lacrosse League starts next weekend on NBCSN, and gets a broadcast on NBC the following weekend. Then on the weekend of June 15, the CFL starts up with 3 games on ESPN2. MLS will be on a break with international competitions for a few weeks, but by the weekend of June 28, all four leagues will be on national cable display on the same weekend (CFL, WNBA, MLS and PLL).

NOTE: Don't know what the "demo" is? Unsure of why the different ratings numbers don't match up? Read our explanation of TV ratings in our first article here.
