Ortiz Returns to Lancers

(Rochester, NY) - The Rochester Lancers today announced the return of midfielder, and former US National Futsal Team Member Jeremy Ortiz. The 28 year old will first be active for a crucial home game on Saturday, December 27 against Baltimore. The Lancers, now 4-1 for the first time in team history, look to continue building a championship caliber roster.
Ortiz spent the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons with the Lancers. During that time, he tallied 31 total goals, 18 assists, and 28 blocks. His six point game in 2012 against Baltimore earned him a spot on the league's Team of the Week.
Ortiz spent the 2013-14 season playing abroad in Australia. He played professional outdoor for Dandenong City SC in the National Premier League 1, notching three goals and seven assists in 14 games. He also played professional futsal for Fitzroy Futsal Club in the Nike V-League Premiership in Melbourne where he had seven goals and 10 assists in just 12 games. Ortiz brings a lot of indoor experience back to Rochester, where he was an important asset his first two seasons.
Ortiz's pro indoor resume also includes the New Jersey Ironmen in 2008 and the Philadelphia KixxÃÂ from 2008-2010. He will wear number 23 for the Lancers this season.
Saturday's home game will kick off at 1pm against the undefeated and first place Baltimore Blast. The Lancers will pay tribute to all local first responders at the game. The team will wear custom tribute jerseys to honor the Rochester Police Department and to remember Officer Pierson. The game-worn jerseys will be auctioned after the game in the lobby. Proceeds will benefit the Spirit of Blue, a national organization for officer safety. The money raised will stay here in Rochester, providing additional safety resources for the RPD. Officer Pierson's wife and children will be the honorary captains for the game.
