Orlando team has new name and owners
November 8, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Las Vegas Aces News Release
Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association today announced that the Orlando team set to begin play this week has changed its name to the Orlando Aces and has a new ownership group led by team Head Coach Todd Triplett. According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "There was confusion with the Syracuse Orange Men, so it was easy enough to change the name. And Todd has put together a group to assume the ownership also. He is quite a guy and have quite a team."
With eight years of coaching experience, Triplett promises to bring an exciting fast break style of basketball to the hardwood with offense-stifling defense. Assistant coaches are Ajac Triplett and Barry Mestel. Triplett comes with more than 30 years of coaching experience and has been recognized as a Western Michigan Hall of Famer, SIAC Coach of the Year and former Florida A&M Head Coach. Mestel is the director of InfoSports Pro Combine.
"The talent and caliber of players comprising the Orlando Aces is a guarantee that basketball enthusiasts will be entertained with all the crowd-raising, fundamental basketball, slam dunks and four-point bonus plays that ABA fans have grown to love across the country," said Triplett. "I've coached in the ABA, I know the league and the high caliber of play - and feel that we will be very competitive - and am excited about the opportunity for ownership and coaching. We're ready."
