ORLANDO - One of the best defensive players to ever suite up in the United Football League is joining the Orlando Predators for the 2012 season as rookie defensive end Adrian Awasom (6'5, 270, North Texas) was recently added to the roster.

Awasom appeared in 17 games with the NFL's New York Giants from 2005-07 and recorded three tackles in a game earlier this season with the Minnesota Vikings.

Originally scheduled to make his Arena Football League debut in Philadelphia in 2009 for new Preds head coach Brett Munsey, Awasom was drafted by the UFL's Las Vegas Locomotives in the league's inaugural draft. He went on to win back-to-back championships and finish third in the league in sacks (5) in 2010.

Awasom said he is excited to learn the nuances of the arena game while playing for a historic AFL franchise in Orlando.

"I'm at a point in my career where I'd like to take advantage of the different leagues and different opportunities that are out there," Awasom said. "Instead of waiting around for a call I just want to continue to be involved in the game of football, no matter at what level."

As an undrafted free agent selection of the Giants in 2005, Awasom played primarily on special teams before appearing in 10 games and recording one sack at defensive end the following year. He was released before the start of the 2008 season after suffering a neck injury.

Awasom finished his collegiate career at North Texas as a three-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection with 147 career tackles (32 for loss) and 22 sacks. He recorded 52 tackles (13 for loss) and a team-leading six sacks for 23 yards as a senior in 2004 and totaled 44 tackles (7 for loss) and four sacks in 12 games as a junior. His eight sacks as a sophomore served as a career single-season high.
