Salt Lake Bees News Release

SALT LAKE CITY - Minor League Baseball announced Salt Lake Bees outfielder Orlando Martinez as the winner of the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week award for July 8-14 today. Martinez is the third Bees hitter to take home the honor this season joining Jose Rojas and David MacKinnon.

Martinez drove in 12 runs during the week, the most in the PCL and second most overall in Minor League Baseball. The 24-year-old had two or more RBI in six consecutive games during the week, tied for the longest streak in Minor or Major League Baseball this season. Overall, Martinez collected nine hits and 21 total bases hitting two doubles, two triples and two home runs during the week and participated in the Junior Bees clinic on the field at Smith's Ballpark on Saturday morning.

A native of La Habana, Cuba, Martinez is in his first year with Salt Lake and fifth year overall with the Angels organization. After starting the season with the Bees Martinez returned to the Salt Lake lineup in late July following a 39-game stint with Double-A Rocket City where he hit .305 with four home runs and 33 RBI. This award is the third weekly award of Martinez' career, having won the award twice with Rocket City on August 22, 2021 and June 19, 2022.

The Bees begin a six-game road trip to face the Reno Aces beginning Tuesday. The team returns to Smith's Ballpark on Tuesday, Aug. 23 to open a six-game series with the Tacoma Rainiers. Tickets and additional details are available at www.slbees.com.
