Orlando City SC News Release
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (Sept. 16, 2018) - Orlando City SC (7-18-3, 24 points) dropped a 4-0 decision to the Chicago Fire (7-15-6, 27 points) on Sunday at Toyota Park. The match closed out a two-game road swing for the Lions, who return to Orlando City Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 22 to host the Houston Dynamo at 7:30 p.m. ET.
"I think when you look at the energy levels there is a lack of energy, a lack of commitment. And then when you look at the goals, the goals we gave them were really, really poor. At any level when you give away goals like that it's impossible to expect to get anything in the end," Lions head coach James O'Connor said. "Our supporters and our ownership don't deserve that level of commitment. We expect to have much more commitment and we certainly expect to have way more energy than that."
O'Connor featured the same back line for the third consecutive game, with Joe Bendik in net and Jonathan Spector, Carlos Ascues, Shane O'Neill and Scott Sutter across the back. Uri Rosell, Yoshimar Yotún, Josué Colmán, Sacha Kljestan and Mohamed El-Munir made up the midfield, with Dom Dwyer as City's lone striker.
The match marked the return of both Yotún and El-Munir, who recently completed international duty with Peru and Libya, respectively.
The Fire took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break. Nemanja Nikoli? put the home side up three minutes into the match, deflecting a low, driven cross past Bendik. Alexsander Katai doubled the lead in the 28th minute after a heavy touch by Bendik led to an open net opportunity.
After assisting on the first two Chicago goals, Michael de Leeuw added one of his own in the 56th minute. Nikoli? added his second in the 70th minute.
