Charlotte Eagles News Release
Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte Eagles (13-4-2, 41 pts) hosted the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (5-10-3, 18 pts) tonight in the Eagles last home game of the regular season. Ricardo Ordain and Jacob Coggins scored the two goals for Charlotte in the 2-1 victory.
Ricardo Ordain put the Charlotte Eagles on the board first in the 32nd minute with his fifth goal in four games. Charlotte pushed the ball forward for Dustin Swinehart, taking it to the endline. Swinehart cut the ball back and passed across to Ordain on the left side. Ordain hit a one time shot, beating Lucas Heasley at the top left corner. Ricardo's goal was the lone goal of the half in which Charlotte out-shot Pittsburgh 5-3.
"He's (Ordain) really been coming on strong. We signed him late, but he's really learning our system and our style. Obviously his pace is amazing. He was a track star at Long Island University. Five goals now in four games. We're pleased," commented Eagles Head Coach Mark Steffens.
Jacob Coggins scored Charlotte's second half goal in the 69th minute. Coggins received a pass at the top of the 18 yard box from Chris Lemons. Coggins made a quick turn on his defender and blasted a shot to the right post beating Heasley high. The goal was Jacob's 14th of the season to lead the league.
The Pittsburgh Riverhounds pulled back within one goal in the final minute of play. Pittsburgh was awarded a penalty kick on Josh Rife's slide tackle in the box. Mira Mupier took the penalty kick beating McClellan low to the right side.
The Charlotte Eagles still hold the top place in the standings with just one regular season match remaining. Charlotte will face rival Wilmington next Saturday night in Wilmington to wrap up the regular season.
