Orange County SC Sign Scottish Striker Mark McNulty
January 19, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Orange County SC News Release
Orange County SC are delighted to announce the signing of Scottish striker Marc McNulty for the upcoming season. McNulty is a proven goal scorer and brings experience with him to Orange County, after spending 13 years in English and Scottish football. He also made two appearances for the Scottish National Team during Scotland's UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.
This signing also marks a reunion for McNulty and OCSC midfielder Dillon Powers. The pair were teammates at Dundee United FC of the Scottish Premiership during the 2020/21 season, where they appeared alongside each other in nine matches for the Tangerines.
"I am very excited for my move to Orange County and to play in the USL Championship!" McNulty said. "I can't wait to get started and help the team achieve great things as they have done in the past!"
McNulty, a 30-year-old native of Edinburgh, Scotland, has made 388 appearances in his career to this point. He has previously played for 10 different clubs including Livingston, Sheffield United, Coventry City, and Sunderland. In those appearances, he has scored 127 goals and provided 61 assists.
The Scottish striker has shown the ability to score goals at a high rate. In the 2017/18 season for then League Two side Coventry City, McNulty tallied 28 goals and 11 assists across 52 appearances in all competitions for the Sky Blues.
*We are delighted to add Marc, a former Scottish International to our roster," OCSC General Manager and President of Soccer Operations Oliver Wyss said. "Marc's quality and international experience will have a significant impact on our team and we are convinced he will bring lots of joy to our fans in Orange County."
Not only does McNulty bring a goal scoring pedigree to Championship Soccer Stadium, but he also brings a veteran presence. As previously mentioned, he has 13 years of experience at high levels in England and Scotland, which can be a valuable learning experience for the likes of OCSC's younger forwards.
"Marc is a prolific striker and a player we expect to play an important role within the team," OCSC Sporting Director Peter Nugent said. "He has the potential to be one of the leading scorers in the league. We look forward to welcoming him to Orange County."
Per club and league policy, terms of the transaction will not be disclosed.
