Orange County Flyers News Release

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Orange County Flyers dropped Game 3 of their best-of-five South Division Championships Series against Na Koa Ikaika Maui, 8-3, on Friday, pushing OC to the brink of elimination in the GBL post-season. Game 4 will be Saturday at Goodwin Field at 7:05pm.

Maui's Gered Mochizuki broke the game open with a grand slam off Zac Cline in the fourth inning, providing what turned out to be the winner margin for the Strong Warriors. One inning earlier, Cline was hit by a line drive off the bat of Jermy Acey on his non-pitching arm.

Orange County's hitter couldn't find their way against Maui's starter Harold Williams, who picked up the post-season victory with nine strikeouts in seven innings on the mound. Williams (1-0) allowed two runs off nine hits before turning the ball over the TJ Macy and Emiliano Fruto for the eighth and ninth innings.

Former Major Leaguer Keith Ginter blasted a solo homerun with one out in the eighth inning to get a run back for the Flyers, but the next five OC batters were retired in order to end the game.

Matt Durkin pitched an inning and a third of scoreless relief, and Mike Koons made his return to OC with two innings of work, allowing an unearned run off one hit with two strike outs. Kevin Altman pitched perfect eighth and ninth innings to finish the game on the mound for the Flyers.

Na Koa's leadoff hitter Fehlandt Lentini scored four runs for Maui, finishing the night 3-for-4 would a pair of doubles.

Orange County will send Jake Renshaw to the mound in Game 4 on Saturday at 7:05pm. If necessary, Game 5 will be on Sunday at 5:05pm.
