Orange County Face off against LA Galaxy II in 405 Derby

August 22, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Orange County SC News Release

CARSON, Calif. - Unbeaten in 2020 and currently sporting a three match win streak, Orange County SC will travel up the 405 freeway to take on LA Galaxy II.

OC and Los Dos have played the same number of matches, five. However, Orange County have 11 points and sit in second place, while Los Dos have nine points and occupy fourth.

Galaxy II had a number of players test positive for COVID-19 three weeks ago. As a result, Junior Gonzalez's side did not play a match for three weeks, finally returning to play against Phoenix on Wednesday. The match ended as a 4-1 loss for Los Dos.

While Los Dos have struggled through this point in the year, it has historically been a fair matchup against OC.

The Orange County defense continues to dominate matches, and together the back four conceded just one shot on target against Las Vegas. Former club captain Kevin Alston returned to the starting lineup, while Nathan Smith continued his good run of form on the left side.

Defensive success has been a key for OCSC all season, while the OC attack is starting to heat up.

Despite playing deep in the Orange County midfield, Aodhan Quinn has scored two goals in the last two matches. He shares the honor of being OC's leading goalscorer in 2020 with Ugo Okoli. Okoli, Brain Iloski and Chandler Hoffman all look dangerous in the final third.

OC may not risk Frederik Due or Seth Casiple. Both came off after picking up knocks against Las Vegas last weekend.

The match kicks off at 7 p.m. Pacific at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ in the United States. The game is available internationally on the USL Championship YouTube channel.
