
Open Tryouts for the Blitz Scheduled

Bakersfield, Calif. â The Bakersfield Blitz of the af2 have announced the details regarding their upcoming tryouts for the 2004 team, to be held on February 28th at the Convention Center, located at 1001 Truxtun Avenue next to Centennial Garden. Cheerleader tryouts will be the same day.
The tryouts will be held from 10:00am-3:00pm on Saturday, February 28th, and will be run by the Blitz coaching staff, headed up by Head Coach Rick Van Horne. Check in time is 9:00am. Prospective players will go through a series of exercises including one-on-ones drills. The drills begin at 10:00am for offensive and defensive linemen, fullbacks and linebackers. At 1:00pm the quarterbacks, receivers and defensive backs will take the field.
The fee is $50 per person, and all entrants will receive a special "I Tried Out For The Blitz" t-shirt, as well as a voucher good for two tickets to the Bakersfield Condors match against the South Carolina Stingrays the next afternoon. All participants must be at least 18 years of age, and are required to bring turf shoes or tennis shoes. Pre-registration is required and checks should be made out to the Bakersfield Blitz.
"This is a great opportunity for players to showcase their talents in front of the Blitz coaching staff," said Van Horne. "For everyone who played in high school or college and dreamed of a pro career, this is their chance."
Immediately following the tryouts for on-field action, tryouts for the off-the-field action begin. The Blitz cheerleading team will also hold open tryouts at the Convention Center, from 4:00-7:00pm on February 28th. There is no fee to audition for the squad, which will feature 12-15 girls.

All caps and short-sleeved shirts are just $10, with long sleeve shirts and sweatshirts marked down to just $12. All kids Blitz gear is marked down to $8 and $5. The Condors Closet is open Monday through Friday from 11:00am â 6:00pm, and on Saturdays 11:00am â 5:00pm.
