Continuing the club's tradition of inviting international sides to Seattle, the Sounders host Welsh soccer club, Cardiff City FC of the English Football League Championship on July 18th at Qwest Field.
The Blue Birds have signed several new, young players during the off-season including 19-year old keeper Mark Howard from Arsenal and 22-year old forward Michael Chopra from Newcastle.
The Cardiff City Blue Birds visit the Northwest as they prepare to make a run at the English Premier League during the 2006-2007 season under Head Coach Dave Jones. Tickets range from $12-$17 dollars, click here for more information.
The Sounders make their fourth trip to the east coast in six weeks to face one of the top clubs in the PDL in the Carolina Dynamo (12-0-1, 37pts). Currently leading the South Atlantic Division, Carolina advanced to the Third Round of the Open Cup by defeating the Richmond Kickers (USL Second Division) 1-0 on June 28th. After two non-league games the Sounders return to their USL First Division schedule when they face one of the top teams in the league and arguably the league's best defense in the Montreal Impact on Sat. July 15th at Qwest Field. On a nine game unbeaten streak (5-0-4), the Impact have allowed only five goals in 12 matches this season. The Impact, who are 2-1-2 on the road, visit Seattle who has been stellar at home with a 5-1-2 record. Tickets are available online! The Sounders' online radio show, "Sounders Insider" with host Mati Bishop takes a trip down history lane with the Sounders play in the U.S. Open Cup. Mati talks with current Sounder midfielder Jake Sagare about his run with the Sounder Select (PDL) in 2001 that defeated Major League Soccer's Dallas Burn 3-2 on the road.
