Toronto Argonauts News Release
TORONTO, Ontario - Chris Rudge, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the 100th Grey Cup Festival and Executive Chairman and CEO of the Toronto Argonauts Football Club, is pleased to announce that the Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, will stand as the Honourary Chair of the 100th Grey Cup Festival.
"The Honourable David Onley has a long history of support for the CFL and has been a lifetime fan of the Toronto Argonauts," said Mr. Rudge. "We are truly overwhelmed by the number of people from across this country who have come forward to support this once in a lifetime event, and we are especially honoured that Ontario's Lieutenant Governor has accepted this prominent post for the 100th Grey Cup Festival in Toronto."
"The Grey Cup trophy was first established by Canada's ninth Governor General, the Honourable Earl Grey, and I am thrilled as Lieutenant Governor of Ontario to continue this tradition of support for Canada's game," said the Honourable David Onley. "I remember listening to the '57 Cup on the radio with my Dad as we didn't have television in Midland. I didn't know who the Tiger-Cats or the Blue Bombers were but thought they were great names and became a lifelong CFL fan. This will be my third Grey Cup and as Lieutenant Governor I have enjoyed taking in a number of Argos and Tiger-Cats games. I hope, as the Ontario Lieutenant Governor, that one of them gets to this historic 100th Grey Cup."
The 100th Grey Cup Festival, to be held in Toronto in 2012, is an Invitation to Our Nation, uniting Canadians from coast-to-coast in Toronto for a nine-day, ten-night festival encompassing over 50 events ranging from traditional team parties, galas and player awards to a football film festival and family fun zone at great venues including the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and Yonge-Dundas Square. Complete with street closures, entertainment and activities, the 100th Grey Cup is a sport and cultural celebration like none before. The 100th Grey Cup will be played at 6:00pm on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at the Rogers Centre. For more information, please visit www.100thGreyCupFestival.ca.
